Last night was the WPT Sand Hill Invitational – a charity poker tournament for Silicon Valley venture capitalists and their cohorts. The top two finishers win seats at the WPT’s Invitational tournament – one in which, by definition, you can’t buy your seat.
As sponsors, On The Fly donated an upscale collection of gifts from the different departments on our site which went to the 5th place finisher. And DD Poker, about to launch the next release of their software, provided some prizes and the software to run the event.
One of the aspects of the tournament is a team competition for the Chairman’s Cup. We had no idea how serious some of these firms were until we saw T-shirts that were made up to disparage (in a friendly way of course) rival firms, and the intense trash-talking that took place throughout the night.
Nevertheless, when all was said and done, Team On The Fly/DD Poker had an extremely strong showing with our own Chief Technology Officer taking 3rd (and missing the WPT seat by one spot), our Founder taking 9th, and Doug Donohoe (the DD in DD Poker) taking 19th. And you thought we were just a bunch of pretty faces…
