Depending on who you listen to, the inauguration of our 44th President is expected to draw a crowd of between 1,000,000 and 4,000,000 people. The city will be a mess no matter what, which is part of the appeal to those planning to be there. So with all of the bars and restaurants in the nation’s capital to choose from, where should the Modern Gentleman bide his off-hours between Balls?
With help from Chris Hogan of OffTheCuffDC.com, we have finally published the Modern Gentleman’s Guide to Washington, D.C. Like our handy guides to San Francisco, NewYork, and Las Vegas, our guide to DC covers the usual necessary haunts: steakhouse, martini bar, cigar shop, business lunch and breakfast spots, and golf courses (private and public).
Our city guides are not meant to be comprehensive; quite the opposite, in fact, as they are meant to be a short, handy reference for a particular type of gentleman that enjoys good food, good wine, maybe a cigar, and is likely in one of the cities on business. Hopefully, our city guides preclude him (or me) from having to open a phone book or peruse a generic "Best of [Insert City Name Here]" article meant for the masses. While I enjoy trying the newest sushi spot or hot, new bar at home in San Francisco, when I’m on the road, I don’t want to take any chances. Send me to a dark-paneled bar with bartenders in white jackets or a top-notch steakhouse and I’ll be just fine.
If you’re wondering where your city’s guide is, it’s on our To Do list for 2009. And stay tuned…we may even reward contributors that help us expand our worldview.
