Over the past year, many of our best selling gifts online and in our store have been from a company right across the bay from us, in Berkeley, California called Tokens & Icons. Essentially, they take authentic "stuff" and turn them into incredibly unique products: cufflinks, pens, lamps, wallets, bottle openers, and even furniture pieces. Examples include cufflinks made from MLB game-used baseballs, old transit tokens, European coins, typewriter keys, Scrabble tiles, and more.
Last night, the Founder & CEO was generous enough to invite me to Game 1 of the World Series, and what an experience it was. Despite a slow start, the Giants ended up producing 11 runs en route to victory. After the game, we headed down to the Clubhouse level to see the authenticators finishing up their duties of logging all the bats, balls, and jerseys they collected from the game (at one point, we were so close to Tim Lincecum, I’m pretty sure I could smell the marijuana on him). Hopefully soon, you’ll be able to buy the Baseball Stitches cufflinks authenticated for the Giants/Rangers World Series.
While I won’t be attending Game 2 tonight, we’ll have it on 9 different TVs in Wingtip tonight, and Tokens & Icons is loaning us 3 barstools whose seats are actual bases from MLB games. Go Giants!
