Shoe queens, rejoice: On The Fly is proud to bring in Alfred Sargent, one of the finest cordwainers in England ? and really, therefore, among the finest in the world. iGents probably know all about A/S after reading about it in the usual places, like here. For those of you seeking some background, the firm started in Northhamptonshire in 1899 and is still manufactures there today. They make Goodyear welted shoes, one of the most durable forms of construction (and one that allows you to replace the soles as needed).
A/S produces two different lines: Exclusive and Handgrade. The former is their introductory collection, though we hesitate to use that descriptor for such high quality, investment-grade footwear. We will be stocking three shoes from the Exclusive line: the Armfield, the Moore, and the Ramsey. These should arrive in mid January, though we’ve already started accepting pre-orders. On The Fly will be the exclusive retailer of Exclusive shoes in San Francisco.
We’ll also be the only American store outside NYC to offer the A/S Handgrade line. Consisting entirely of MTO (made-to-order) shoes, the Handgrade program allows you to design everything about the shoe, including the model, leather, last, sole, and detailing. Come Spring, we will have samples of every single model in this range, along with a full compliment of try-on shoes. For those of you who know and love names like Edward Green, John Lobb, and G.J. Cleverly, the A/S Handgrade range deserves a serious look.
