US Open: Ducks on the Fairway

Casey Martin last made a US Open appearance in 1998, right here at the Olympic Club. In the years since then, Martin won a widely heralded Supreme Court case against the PGA Tour, and took a job as golf coach at the University of Oregon.

But Martin wasn’t the only Duck on the green Wednesday morning. His colleague, U-of-O football head coach Chip Kelly showed up to lend his support, and to coordinate Martin’s outfits–seriously. U-of-O green, white, and yellow has been popping up all over the course, and today, for Martin’s first round, Kelly selected a bold, neon green-and-white striped shirt in the tradition of his always colorful Ducks.

Below: Martin introduces former Stanford teammate Tiger Woods to Coach Chip Kelly during their practice round; Fans sport shades of duck.
