In light of national retailers opening for business on this year’s Thanksgiving holiday, San Francisco’s Wingtip, a luxury menswear clothier in the Financial District is taking things a step further. In a move some have labeled as “Shocking,” the retailer will open its doors as early as Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.
“The way the retail climate is, with the shortened shopping season and the recovering economy, we saw no alternative,” says Wingtip founder Ami Arad. “We’ll be open the day before Thanksgiving this year.”
“We’re opening Wednesday to get a jump on the retailers who are open on Thanksgiving,” reported frustrated Wingtip employee Ian Page. Store manager Michael Alzona added, “I knew we’d be opening late the day after Thanksgiving for our annual anti-‘Black Friday’ event. You know, hot chocolate for customers, afternoon door-buster discounts, and a little music. But to open the day before Thanksgiving is a necessary evil. So much for my 24-hour turkey brine.”
Arad was quick to point out that Wingtip would be closed on Thanksgiving, like any self-respecting American brick-and-mortar. “But we’re running a business, and we’ve been forced to open the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Bah humbug.”
Wingtip will open Wednesday, 11/27 from 10am–7pm and open late Friday 11/29 from 12pm–7pm. For inquiries contact firstname.lastname@example.org
