The Club celebrated Ian Fleming’s 107th birthday this past Saturday night. We did have a guest or two wonder why he was not in attendance, but we suspect it had something to do with him passing away in 1964. To keep the theme fresh each year, we’re working through the movies in chronological order, with last year’s party celebrating Dr. No and this year’s party all about From Russia with Love.
Guests had to walk by a handful of Aston Martin and Jaguar cars parked out front by British Motor Cars. A photo booth featuring the giant chess board from the beginning of the movie offered a great photo spot before heading into the parlor rooms for Baccarat or craps. The main bar featured your usual Bond fare: Martinis, champagne, and a few drinks from a secret menu. Bond Girl, A James Bond Rock Band, rocked the night away, taking a couple breaks for two beautiful belly dancers to hypnotize the crowd. In a gratuitous display of excess, caviar was served from two actual sturgeon. The wine cave, which is almost complete, was turned into a Turkish lounge with wine, baklava, and Turkish coffee. Next year’s party, celebrating his 108th birthday, will be held Saturday, May 28th.
